My buddy Nick, who runs JustAwesome Photography, asked me to help him shoot a local Subaru Meet held my Rallysport Direct. As I love taking pictures of cars almost more than anything, of course I agreed to help out. There were more Subaru’s here in one place than I had ever seen before. I had a blast with the event and met some really cool folks. This was definitely a great meet, and I never realized how strong of a community the Subaru owners have. Grime Time @ Shaka’s 4.20.2012

April’s Grime Time @ Shaka’s Virginia was wild. Over 600 people attended throughout the night to party with DJ SLIINK. He came in from New York to host this event. Check out this set of pictures from the venue. I’ll be compiling some video I took to produce a video sampler from the night too.

GRIME TIME @ Shaka’s, Virginia Beach

I took the camera out last night to try something new. I’ve always wanted to film a club or bar atmosphere, so I finally gave it a shot. Grime Time is a monthly event held by Shaka’s, a bar at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Local dubstep dj, Barry Clark, or as referred to by his stage name, AETGY, hosts the event with various guest Dj’s. Last night, NUMBERNIN6 made an appearance and drew a packed house. I’m going to be doing more coverage similar to this in the future. Watch the Grime Time 3.23 video here.

Video: Danny Domenech’s FD RX-7

We’re getting the ball rolling for more Sumospeed videos. Making a cameo in my earlier Driftwater video, Danny Domenech’s car deserves its own filmed feature. Danny built this raw automobile to be drifted, and he does it every chance he can. I ventured out to Portsmouth to film this car, and we found a nice spot where he could open it up a bit. Video: Jayr Legaspi’s Lexus IS

Here’s another video feature for Sumospeed. We went out to shoot this Lexus IS300 owned by Jayr Legaspi only days before he left on deployment back to Afghanistan. He has a lot of plans for when he returns, but for now, this video will tribute Jayr and his passion for his car. Watch the final video here.

Sumospeed Poker Run

I’ve been doing a lot of work with Sumospeed in the past few months. As they continue to grow, they continue to pursue charity events to raise money for various organizations. The Sumospeed Poker Run raises money for the CHKD and brings a lot of good people together for a fun event with cars and cruising. Sumospeed partnered up with various local businesses to develop the Poker Run, an event where participants drive from stop to stop building a progressive poker hand at each stop. After the several stops throughout the cities, a winner with the best hand is announced at the end. I took my camera out of the day and covered some of the stops and the cruising in between. I’m also proud to say that I’m Sumospeed’s newest member, and many more big things are in store for the future.

Video: The LS1 S14

As stated in the previous post, I shot more video for the LS1 S14. I’ve been enjoying my new Canon and working on some new processing. Here are some pictures from after the shoot. I took a few of my old BMW and some of our buddy’s freshly lowered Roush Mustang. We’ll be doing more coverage of that car soon. Check out the video of the S14 here.

Internet Famous S14

This car is making the rounds across the Internet quickly. After being featured in Modified Magazine, Stephen Knoop’s LS1 swapped S14 has become quite the celebrity. A few weeks ago, we took it out for a little shoot to get some night pictures. The car’s paint is magnificently striking, but horribly difficult to shoot. I wanted to take a shot at light painting the car, so we did that for the first half of the night. After that, I brought out my speedlite and attempted to shoot strobist style. The car and its illusive paint make a great impression in person, but for my camera and my editing software, the impression wasn’t as pleasing. The paint color seemed to shine and glow and reflect in mysterious ways, but I think I managed to get some quality images that successfully show off the car’s image. A video shoot will soon be posted, but for now, enjoy this set of pictures from Stephen Knoop’s night shoot.

Yet another Celica

For whatever reason, these Celica’s keep popping up around here. Despite being such a despicably ugly car, I’m actually growing fond of these things. With the right stance and wheels, they actually look appealing. I guess they are getting popular because people can see a lot of potential. I would’ve never guess that one of these bastardy cars could look good, but I’ve been seeing truly surprising examples. This Celica is owned by Jon Ilas. He wanted some pictures before he departed for the Navy next month. The car currently has some staggered purple Kerscher KCS wheels with gold accented bolts, and they really look cool. Depending on the light, they can look very dark and almost black. But when lit differently, they pop a very vibrant color. The car used to have black chrome Rotiform BLQ’s, but they frankly didn’t work as well. As it sits now, it comes together nicely to create a very cool car. I’m happy I could shoot it for him before he returns it to stock and says goodbye.

Rainy day video shooting

Two weeks ago, I had some time to setup video shoots. Kenny Cao and Justin Tabing wanted short films of their cars, so we arranged a Sunday shoot. However, this particular Sunday brought downpours and freezing temperatures only suitable for staying inside and relaxing all day. Because I wanted to incorporate rain into the video, I gave up my love for warmth and dryness, covered my camera in plastic bags, and suffered through. We went to downtown Norfolk and used a few of my favorite spots. The rain gave me a struggle, but the end result came out very well. The droplets on the lens actually helped the overall feel.

Kenny’s video was dedicated to his Camry and saying goodbye. He sold the car a few days after the video shoot, so I wanted to make an emotional piece that he could remember forever. The rain and music came together to create a final sense of goodbye. Gloomy weather and sorrowful, ambient music fit nicely with the video’s goal. I’m glad to have had the chance to create this for kenny and his Camry. It will be missed.

Justin’s video featured his stanced xB. I liked that his car had a very simple aesthetic. It was clean and nicely done; nothing over the top. When I edited the footage, I loved the visuals and wanted an appropriate audio track. The music is smooth, simple, and has a bit of sexy appeal to it. I feel the same about his car; very nice looking, minimalistic, and intriguing. I’m not a fan of Scions, so I was pleasantly surprised that an xB could look this good. I enjoyed shooting this Scion and I believe that it is one of the coolest xB’s in this area. I hope Justin can be proud of what he has created, because it definitely looks good in person and on film.
